Euclid Street Airbnb Week 3: Bathroom Basics and Kitchen Backsplash

We are still catching up from repairing all the lovely things we found beneath the layers and old drywall. We didn’t get to the tile, but we are very close. Kasey spent a lot of time in the bathroom this week fixing plumbing, bathroom fans, GFI outlets and getting new hardy backer wallboard up!

Here’s what we did this week:

  • Move 2nd fridge to wine cellar and temporarily move the kitchen fridge into one of the storage areas
  • Drywall rework/ spackling in the kitchen
  • Get the flooring inside and acclimating to the basement
  • Replace the fan in the bathroom
  • Repair shower plumbing
  • GFI outlets in the bathroom
  • Picked out and order a light fixture, the electrical you run depends on the design
  • Electrical for bathroom light fixture
  • Put up hardy board in bathroom and kitchen
  • Strip and prime the steel cabinets for the sink
  • Clean, prep and prime the baseboard radiators
The Hardy Backer wallboard is in for the Kitchen backsplash! The drywall was also replaced and repaired in the corner. The back-splash tile should be here in the next couple of days!
Lots of repair needed to happen once we pulled off the previous back-splash. This is just the first coat.
The steel cabinets are all primed and ready for color. The Citristrip paint stripper did made quick work on getting the paint off. Shout out to Claire and Keven for helping out this week! Thanks a bunch! We sanded off all of the rusty areas prior to painting and also sanded the cabinet surfaces with 220 grit after priming to make sure we get a smooth finish. The oil based paint is the way to go for metal. Rust-oleum with the primer, has always done a nice job for us.
We picked out a center mount 2 light option. The fixtures for this bathroom are just going to be a bright and clean chrome, so the light is chrome as well. The shower head now aligns with the handle (it was previously 3 inches off center. In the top left corner, you can see the new fan is in (it put up quite the fight) and we just need to finish drywall around it. Last but not least, the beautiful hardy backer that goes around most of the room. The tile will go floor to ceiling on the wall we are facing and will wrap into the shower.

Mulvaney 2-Light Vanity, Bathroom

“When you have the opportunity to add a plug… add a plug”- Uncle Greg. Also, the updated light switch, now includes a working fan!

While we were hoping to have some tile done by the end of this week, it was just too ambitious. Kasey got the important things fixed and updated in the bathroom, so now we can all feel a little better on what is behind the walls. It looks like tiling and wall paint are going to happen in this upcoming week and the bamboo floor will fall in week 5.
